When combined, the collection spans seven feet wide and four feet high. The project of handmade ceramic dishes called the Fifty United Plates began two years ago with this premise: “We’re all locals somewhere, with a home in a hometown in a great state.”
The porcelain set of dishware (or stateware?) was launched via Kickstarter where individual State Plates were used as funding rewards. The campaign surpassed its goal in just the first day, raising capital for the equipment and time to make the full map set.
The full map collection is now a reality in the city of Detroit where the handmade ceramics manufacturers, Corbe Company, identify themselves as part of the city’s resurgence.
