Using colors in the same way that a pie chart measures area, a series of data flags were produced for Grande Reportagem Magazine. The combination of statistics with the country’s flag imagery is a shocking juxtaposition.
Using real data from Amnesty International and United Nations, Brazillian artist Icaro Doria stated, “There are eight flags that portray very current topics like the division of opinions about the war in Iraq in the United States, the violence against women in Africa, the social inequality in Brazil, the drug trafficking in Columbia, [and] AIDS and malaria in Angola.” Doria worked with Lisbon advertising agency FCB Publicidade on the project.
This smart series of images provide a very effective way of visualizing each countries’ inequalities, political polarities and touchy demographics.
