The summer months draw crowds to the water’s edge. The lakes, oceans, and pools are a venue for fun and relaxation. It was memories of childhood summers spent in the lakes of Northern Minnesota that inspired painter Samantha French to create a series of water paintings.
The portraits of swimmers surrounded by blue water evoke the sounds, sights, and experiences of a summer weekend. Although her series includes portraits above and below the water, the divers are especially striking when surrounded by the blue water. A study of light and movement, these water portraits effectively use color and form to create the water ripples and bubbles of swimming.
