As Jimmy Fallon takes over as host for the Tonight Show, Emily Oberman from NYC design studio Pentagram took the long history of the program into consideration when working on its new visual identity. She sought a visual language that has a contemporary feel while paying homage to the program’s 60-year history.
The shift from the crescent moon of previous designs to a full moon is a bold move towards contemporary flat design. The logotype is set in Sharp Sans which elegantly bleeds to the moon’s edges. The graphic’s strong versatility makes it easy to drop into any landscape or to be used for the show’s sales products.
