Tis the season for decking the halls and buying sweet nothings to show each other we care. For those on a quest to make purchases that are local and handmade, here’s another opportunity.
HEARTH Holiday Pop-Up Shop will open its doors for one December weekend, bringing together several local artists selling their wares.
The pop-up shop is hosted by SHELTER (recently included in our Big Crafty preview). The owners are currently refitting the former West Asheville Shoe Shop to become a combination studio and retail space. “We are taking our time building it out, and will open our doors with a small retail element, SHELTER COLLECTIVE, in the spring time,” said Karie Reinertson, one of the managing partners.
But while we’re waiting for the weather to turn warm, we’ll have a chance to peek in their doors during this weekend’s pop-up shop. Reinertson shared that the impetus for the event was “because we have the space and there are so many talented designers/makers in our community whose work we want to help share.”
Included in the event are the following artists and small businesses: Another Feather (jewelry), Appalatch (outdoor apparel), Bow and Arrow Apparel (denim wearables), Cisthene (jewels/apothecary/ leather), Kreh Mellick (drawings), Melissa Weiss Pottery (ceramics), SHELTER (knapsacks and bags), and To & From With Love (letterpress and papergoods).
